For years some have said that TV affects one’s health in many ways”most of those ways negative. Many studies have been done to see just exactly what kind of effects TV has on a person’s health.

Many are addicted to TV; they feel compelled to watch it everyday”all day. There are specific symptoms of a person who has TV addiction such as being unable to stop watching, wanting to watch anything on TV, using the television as a kind of sedative to help them calm down and feeling irritable if they can’t watch TV.

In addition, another negative effect from TV is that it adds to a person’s weight gain. It’s been said that those who watch more than 3-4 hours of TV will most likely become obese. Other ways that TV affects your health are: not reading as much as you used to, not enjoying outside activities with family and friends and not wanting to socialize in the community. However, there are ways to help a person watch less TV such as turning off the set and leaving it off for a couple of weeks, make a list of the shows you like best, making a schedule and only watching certain programs and not eating in front of the TV.

If one feels that they’re watching too much TV, they can read magazines and books or listen to some music. Some studies have also shown that when we watch too much TV and don’t read the newspapers, we’re more likely to accept what we’re being told; instead of making decisions ourselves on important matters or questioning what others tell us.
